Our specialist national employment team works alongside clients to effectively respond to changing market conditions, workplace trends, and employment law requirements. We operate as partners to our clients. We seek to understand their workplace needs and to find commercial and innovative solutions to often complex employment and industrial issues.

Our team advises on all aspects of employment law, including advising employers on their rights and responsibilities under New Zealand employment legislation, drafting employment agreements and policies, and managing disciplinary processes, employment investigations, whistleblower enquiries, team moves, independent contractor issues, restructuring and redundancy issues, and privacy issues.

The team provides strategic industrial relations advice on bargaining issues, including contingency planning, support during collective bargaining, collective agreements, and strikes and lockouts. We also regularly participate in dispute resolution processes and mediations, and when matters are not resolved by agreement, the team also advise on litigation in the Employment Relations Authority, Employment Court, Human Rights Review Tribunal, and other courts.

In addition, our team works closely alongside other Bell Gully teams to provide advice on the employment and health and safety aspects of mergers, acquisitions, divestments, and restructurings, and major projects.
