Andrea is an experienced litigation lawyer who specialises in employment law, health and safety, alcohol licensing, civil litigation, dispute resolution and education work.

Andrea is a special counsel in Bell Gully's industry-leading employment team. She advises on a broad range of employment matters including discipline and dismissal, performance management, holidays and leave, change management and redundancy for public and private sector employers and individual clients. On health and safety matters, Andrea advises clients on their legal obligations, including drafting and reviewing clauses in contracting and funding arrangements, and assisting in investigations.

Andrea has vast experience drafting, reviewing and advising on all forms of employment agreements, policies and independent contractor agreements. This includes providing advice on collective bargaining.

She regularly represents clients in mediations and negotiations, and appears in the Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court. Across wider civil litigation matters, Andrea has demonstrated success contesting cases in various tribunals, the District Court, High Court and the Court of Appeal.

Andrea's extensive litigation practice also includes advising clients on public, civil and education law issues. In addition, she has a speciality in the hospitality industry providing alcohol licensing advice including applications for new licences, renewals and variations. Over her career she has represented clients including applicants, licensees, objectors, Licensing Inspectors and Medical Officers of Health at District Licensing Committee hearings, before the Alcohol Regulatory and Licensing Authority and in the High Court.

Andrea is a member of the Wellington Branch of the New Zealand Law Society Employment Law Committee.

Work on secondment in a busy Government Department ER team over several years
Working on secondment in person and virtually to help fill and support a Principal ER Advisor role over several years including providing advice on various personal grievances and disputes, employment agreements and policy documentation, change proposals and collective bargaining.

Employment agreements and collective bargaining
Advising large Government Departments, Crown Entities and private employers on their employment agreements including full scale reviews, developing suites of agreements, reviews of collective agreements and providing strategic advice.

Employment Court superannuation entitlements and good faith cases
Represented a public sector organisation in a complex superannuation entitlements case in the Employment Court, and a tertiary institute in a test case on the extent of good faith obligations in restructuring before a full bench of the Employment Court.

Unjustified disadvantage and unjustified dismissal cases
Represented various clients at mediations, in negotiations and before the Employment Relations Authority in unjustified disadvantage and unjustified dismissal cases.

Workplace health and safety
Advising clients on various health and safety matters including law changes and providing training, assisting in investigations and reviewing policies and clauses including around bullying and harassment, stress and drugs and alcohol.

Provided employment advice through a legal hotline for a number of client organisations.
