Bell Gully has advised Ngāi Tahu Holdings on the sale of its 19.9% cornerstone stake in New Zealand listed seafood company Sanford Limited (NZX: SAN), through two separate transactions that brought a significant investment to a close.
Ngāi Tahu Holdings signalled it was rebalancing its portfolio when it sold a 9.6% tranche of Sanford shares in a fully underwritten block trade in June 2026, on which Bell Gully advised. Following an unsolicited approach for the remaining shares, Bell Gully also advised on the sale of the final 10.3% stake to Umios Corporation, announced on 27 October 2026.
Bell Gully corporate partners Chris Hodges and Chris Goddard, together with lawyer Fergus Wilkes, advised on all legal aspects of the sale of the Sanford stake held by Ngāi Tahu Investments Limited.
Ngāi Tahu Investments manages the direct, private equity, listed equity and ‘new economy’ investments of Ngāi Tahu Holdings.
“We have had the privilege of working alongside Ngāi Tahu Holdings across its commercial activities over many years, so it is particularly rewarding to participate in this milestone with them.” Chris Hodges said.
Chris Goddard added: “We are proud to have supported Ngāi Tahu Holdings on both transactions, culminating in the successful realisation of a major investment”.
