Bell Gully has advised Genesis on the development of its NZ$125 million Leeston solar farm, a 70MWp renewable energy project in Canterbury.
Genesis expects construction to start by the end of 2026. Leeston is the fifth solar project Genesis has in operation or under development, expanding its New Zealand solar generation portfolio and marking another step in the company’s strategy of investing NZ$2.2 billion in new renewable generation and battery storage by 2032.
Bell Gully partner Scott Lochhead said the project reflects the continued momentum behind utility-scale solar development in New Zealand. “It’s been great to support Genesis on this significant Canterbury renewable energy project,” Scott said.
The Bell Gully team was led by construction and projects partner Scott Lochhead, with corporate partner Chris Hodges. They were supported by lawyers Kate Johnson and Taumata Toki.
