Bell Gully was pleased to advise French luxury fashion house Chanel on its investment in Lammermoor Station, a Central Otago station which produces fine wool for Chanel’s garments.
Chanel has invested in a joint venture company established to own and support Lammermoor Station alongside Lammermoor Station’s New Zealand owners. Through the joint venture, Chanel intends to build on Lammermoor Station’s existing organic status and achieve Regenerative Organic Certification, making Lammermoor Station the world’s first Regenerative Organic Certified fine wool-producing farm.
The OIO granted consent to the investment under the Overseas Investment Act, under the benefit to New Zealand pathway. Amongst key benefits resulting from Chanel’s investment, the OIO cited increased export receipts in premium wool, increased recognition to the New Zealand wool industry for luxury products, as well as environmental benefits.
The Bell Gully team advising Chanel was led by partners Gabrielle Menzies and Glenn Shewan, supported by a team that included partners Jane Holland, Jennifer Gunser and Rosemary Wooders, senior associate Sarah Brougham and lawyers Ben Clarke and Nicholas Goodman.
