Elli is a senior associate in Bell Gully’s litigation team. She has widespread experience advising on cross border commercial litigation, complex international arbitration and regulatory investigations.

Elli holds an LLM from New York University. After graduating, she gained international experience working in London at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP and Enyo Law LLP. While in London, Elli developed a particular interest in climate change litigation, as well as ESG issues and climate change risk management.

Prior to her time overseas, Elli was part of the litigation team at another top tier New Zealand law firm.

International human rights proceedings
Acted on behalf of defendants accused, in the High Court of England and Wales, of unlawfully abducting, torturing and detaining the claimants in the UAE.

Litigation involving hacking and espionage
Acted on behalf of defendants who were accused of orchestrating an attempted hack of the claimant’s computer systems in the High Court of England and Wales. Acted on behalf of claimants alleging harassment and trespass in relation to surveillance carried out by the defendants in the High Court of England and Wales.

London seated UNCITRAL Arbitration
Acted on behalf of a publicly listed mining company and its subsidiaries in a multi-billion-dollar dispute against an African state following a ban on mineral exports.

Ad hoc arbitration seated in Brussels
Represented a global consultancy company which, following an acquisition, faced claims from the seller alleging breach of the Share Purchase Agreement.

Climate change litigation in multiple jurisdictions
Acted for a multinational entity in relation to novel and complex litigation in the USA and Europe concerning alleged contribution to rising greenhouse gas emissions.
