Karl is specialist real estate lawyer, with extensive experience advising clients across the full range of property transactions. Clients find Karl approachable and value the ease of working with him – even in high pressure situations.

Karl has significant and broad-ranging experience on complex transactional real estate work including:

high-profile acquisitions of forestry estates
head office leases for some of New Zealand's biggest businesses
the development of large office towers and shopping centres, and
successfully guiding clients through New Zealand's complex overseas investment regime.

Karl also provides specialist strategic real estate advice in relation to large-scale corporate transactions, and regularly advises banks and non-bank lenders on the property aspects of complex and time-critical real estate finance transactions. Karl is also a LINZ accredited agent, meaning he is specifically qualified to advise on certain matters related to Crown-owned property.

Karl takes a commercial approach to transactions and provides clients with strategic advice on any property-related challenges that arise.

Stonepeak takeover of Arvida

Advised on the property aspects of its takeover of NZX-listed Arvida Group, which included conducting comprehensive legal due diligence on 35 retirement villages and communities.

Fiera Comox acquisition

Advised Fiera Comox Global Sustainable Timberland Fund LP on its acquisition of a majority interest in Ngāi Tahu’s forestry estate on the West Coast of the South Island (comprising approximately 45,500 hectares).

One New Zealand sale of mobile towers

Advised on the property aspects of the sale of its passive mobile tower business for NZ$1.7bn.

Mainland Poultry

Advised on its sale and leaseback of its New Zealand poultry farming portfolio (comprising 12 farms/facilities), and the acquisition of additional farms for conversion to poultry farming.

Public Works Act

Advising Auckland Transport on complex Public Works Act acquisitions on sites around Auckland in support of Te Tupu Ngātahi (The Supporting Growth Alliance).

Kiwi Property

Advised on its development and leasing of a second, 6 Green Star rated office tower at Sylvia Park, having previously advised on the development and leasing of the first Sylvia Park tower.
