Bell Gully has advised a number of clients on high profile Royal Commissions, Commissions of Inquiry, and Government and Ministerial Inquiries.

These inquiries are generally established in response to particularly tragic, politically damaging or financially significant events. They are, therefore, conducted in what can be stressful and high pressure environments.

Through our work in such high profile inquiries we are experienced in handling the sensitivities that can exist, as well as dealing with the increased scrutiny and public law issues associated with them.

We have acted for parties appearing or involved in many significant inquiries of various forms, including more recently the:

  • Government Inquiry into the Whey Protein Concentrate Contamination Incident (WPC80),

  • Government Inquiry into allegations regarding Hon Judith Collins and a former Director of the Serious Fraud Office,

  • Ministerial Inquiry into the Novopay project,

  • independent review of Accident Compensation Corporation's privacy and security of information, and

  • Royal Commission of Inquiry on the Pike River Coal Mine tragedy.
