Bell Gully announces two new special counsel and five new senior associates

​Bell Gully has appointed the firm’s first special counsel, promoting both Brendan Cash and Liz Lim from senior associate in recognition of their significant experience and high level of expertise.

“Special counsel is a new position within the firm and recognises long serving, highly respected practitioners in the firm who demonstrate outstanding legal skills and have built reputations as trusted advisors to our clients in their specialist areas of expertise. We are delighted to recognise Brendan and Liz in this way and congratulate them on achieving this special position” said Bell Gully’s Chair, Chris Gordon.

Brendan Cash
Brendan Cash has 17 years’ experience at Bell Gully and Ashurst in London. He is an experienced and talented commercial litigator, with particular expertise in the specialist area of construction litigation where Brendan has built a formidable reputation.
Liz Lim Liz Lim has 18 years’ experience as a banking and finance lawyer, 16 of them spent with Bell Gully. Liz joined the firm after spending four years as a banker at ANZ as part of the bank’s graduate programme. She also spent two years at Allen & Overy in London. Liz is a trusted advisor to a number of significant New Zealand organisations and valued clients of the firm.

The firm has also appointed five new senior associates Natasha Garvan, Lisa McLennan, Kate Venning, Gemma Wills, and Kristin Wilson.

“These five new senior associates are outstanding lawyers and showcase the depth and breadth of talent we have across the firm,” commented Chris.

Natasha Garvan Natasha Garvan is an environmental and resource management law specialist. Her expertise includes providing strategic advice for large scale projects; assessing policy options to inform proposed legislation and regulation; drafting notices of appeal and legal submissions; appearing before councils and the Courts; and undertaking due diligence for major corporate and property transactions. Natasha has a background in political studies with a particular focus on policy analysis and comparative public policy.
Lisa McLennan Lisa McLennan specialises in environmental and planning law with experience advising on major infrastructure projects. She regularly assists clients in the preparation of strategic advice, consenting and undertaking due diligence and is familiar with liaising with large teams of consultants. Prior to joining Bell Gully, Lisa worked for leading global management consultancy firm, Accenture in the UK.
Kate Venning Kate Venning is a commercial litigator with experience in civil and criminal litigation and international arbitration. Kate has worked on several high profile commercial disputes both in New Zealand and internationally.
Gemma Wills Gemma Wills has expertise in a wide range of property transactions, with a focus on property acquisitions, disposals and property finance transactions. Gemma is also experienced in advising on the Overseas Investment Act 2005 for many international investors.
Kristin Wilson Kristin Wilson is an experienced litigator specialising in media and consumer law. She has expertise in advertising, food law, privacy (including cyber security), media law and intellectual property. Kristin regularly provides advice regarding product labelling, consumer law, advertising and marketing.
