Bell Gully announces seven new senior appointments

​​Bell Gully has appointed five new partners and a further two new special counsel effective 1 January 2017. The appointments are internal promotions, reflecting Bell Gully’s long standing reputation for identifying and developing market-leading lawyers within the firm.

The new partners are Karl Anderson, Tim Fitzgerald, Tania Goatley, Chris Goddard and Graham Murray. The two special counsel are Sarah McQueen and Sally Whincop, appointments which build on the firm’s introduction of the position in 2016.

Karl Anderson
Karl Anderson is a talented commercial property and real estate lawyer. He has significant experience dealing with the sale, acquisition, development and leasing of property, and acting on the property-related aspects of large scale corporate and banking transactions. Prior to joining Bell Gully in 2014 he was an associate in the real estate departments of Addleshaw Goddard and King & Wood Mallesons in London.
Tim Fitzgerald Tim Fitzgerald has 13 years’ commercial litigation experience with particular expertise in insolvency, regulatory, banking, company law, and insurance disputes. Tim has built strong relationships with a number of the firm’s key clients.
Tania Goatley Tania Goatley has 16 years’ experience as a commercial litigator. Her expertise is in media law (including defamation, advertising, Fair Trading and passing off issues), intellectual property and privacy law. Her strengths also include extensive experience in food and beverage law and the provision of regular advice on all aspects of advertising and marketing activities.
Chris Goddard Chris Goddard is part of our market-leading corporate team, and joined the firm after working for Herbert Smith in London. Chris specialises in securities offerings and mergers and acquisitions, and regularly advises investment banks. He has advised on some of New Zealand's most significant initial public offerings and listings.​​
Graham Murray Graham Murray advises on the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, investment structuring, financing (particularly securitisation), managed funds, employee share arrangements and tax disputes. He is the primary contact on tax-related matters for many of the firm’s key corporate and individual clients.

Sarah McQueen
Sarah McQueen is a financial services specialist advising extensively on managed funds law including superannuation. She also advises on insurance regulation and policy reviews. Sarah returned to Bell Gully in 2010 after working for Slaughter and May in London.
Sally Whincop Sally Whincop specialises in commercial property and is a highly experienced and regarded practitioner in that area. Her experience spans almost 20 years of acting on some of New Zealand’s most high profile property transactions. She has worked closely with clients over many years on their complex, diverse and changing property needs, and her clients value her common-sense strategic advice.
