Bell Gully won six awards at the 2019 New Zealand Law Awards held on Thursday 21 November, including Employer of Choice and chair Anna Buchly named Managing Partner of the Year.
It was a successful night across the board for our clients and teams, with the firm's corporate team recognised in a number of deal categories for outstanding work leading to successful outcomes. This included winning M&A Deal of the Year for its work in relation to Shell New Zealand's divestment programme, with the Bell Gully team led by partner David Coull. This deal went on to win New Zealand Deal of the Year, an outstanding result for David and the rest of the team.
The firm also won Capital Markets Deal of the Year for the Xero convertible note issuance, led by partners David Craig and Dean Oppenhuis and International Deal of the Year for AIA's acquisition of sovereign life insurance business from CBA, led by partner Glenn Joblin and including partner Chris Goddard and special counsel Sarah McQueen.
