Former Prime Minister the Rt Hon Dame Jenny Shipley has launched a new Bell Gully initiative to encourage women in leadership with an inspiring speech in Auckland.
Dame Jenny, New Zealand's first female prime minister and the only woman to date to lead the National Party, now holds a number of high profile company directorships and advisory roles, as well as being involved in leadership initiatives such as the Council of Women World Leaders.
At the launch of the Bell Gully Women Leaders' Series in Auckland last week, attended by women from public and private sector organisations, she spoke of her personal experiences as a woman leader, particularly at a time when women were in the minority in leadership roles.
She encouraged women to actively look out for opportunities and to be the best that they could be.
Dame Jenny offered valuable insight based on her own experiences and emphasised the importance of women finding their own strategies to achieve both a successful career and balanced family and personal lives.
More events in the Bell Gully Women Leaders' Series are planned for Auckland and Wellington next year.
