Support for New Zealanders with leukaemia and their families has been boosted with the raising of just over $75,000 in the annual Bell Gully and PricewaterhouseCoopers Shave for a Cure event.
Bell Gully and PwC joined forces for the fifth consecutive annual shave to raise money for the work of the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation, with this year's theme being an "Initial Fundraising Offer (IFO)", a variation on the stockmarket Initial Public Offering (IPO). The NZX got on board to promote the IFO on its website.
Partners and staff from both firms took part in the offer either by offering a head of hair to be shaved or by donation of funds in support of the shavees.
Bell Gully's shavees from its offices in Auckland and Wellington – Hugh Kettle, Michael Goldstein, Bill Rennie, David Stevens, David Shewan, Chris Payne, Sam Gunson and Ogy Kabzamalov - raised just over $14,000 between them. Combined with the fundraising of the much larger PwC with offices around the country, the total reached just over $75,000.
Between them Bell Gully and PwC have raised almost $500,000 through their annual Shave events.
Bell Gully chairman Roger Partridge says the firm's partners and staff welcome the chance to contribute and be part of the teamwork and rewarding fun that is the Shave event. "We never lose sight of being able to make a practical difference for those with leukaemia and their families. For some, this is very personal; for others losing their hair or giving donations is just a small contribution but one collectively we know can go a long to support the work of the LBF."
Shave for a Cure is the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation's main source of income. Foundation executive director Pru Etcheverry says the generosity of Bell Gully and PwC partners, staff and supporters means the foundation is able to continue to provide critical support to New Zealand patients and families living with blood cancers and conditions.
The funds raised will go toward funding the key components of the foundation's work – patient support services, research, information, awareness and advocacy.
