On 30 October a shaved head could be a serious little money maker as Bell Gully again teams up with PricewaterhouseCoopers to support the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation's (LBF) Shave for a Cure fundraiser.
Bell Gully and PwC are joining forces and offering their staff and supporters an "Initial Fundraising Offer (IFO)", a variation on Initial Public Offering (IPO), as a way to fundraise for the charity and help it expand its patient support services.
The firms are collaborating with NZX which will post the "IFO" on its website for the event. Market watchers can follow how the firms' fundraisers are tracking and read about it on the NZX blog.
Staff participation in the offer is either by offering a head of hair to be shaved or by donation of funds in support of the shavees.
Bell Gully Chairman Roger Partridge says the firm's partners and staff welcome the chance to contribute and be part of the teamwork and rewarding fun that is the Shave event. "We never lose sight of being able to make a practical difference for those with leukaemia and their families. For some, this is very personal; for others losing their hair or giving donations is just a small contribution but one collectively we know can go a long to support the work of the LBF."
According to the tongue-in-cheek "IFO" terms, none of the issuer, the organising participants, or any of their respective directors, officers or employees, or any other person, guarantees the re-growth of any hair shaved.
Bell Gully and PwC have held annual shave events for the past four years raising an amazing $404,000. This year they are seeking staff investment to push that amount past the half million dollar mark.
Shave for a Cure is the LBF's main source of income. Pru Etcheverry, the LBF Executive Director said: "It's organisations like PwC and Bell Gully who continue to inspire us. It is due to their incredibly generous involvement, year on year, that we are able to continue to provide critical support to New Zealand patients and families living with blood cancers and conditions.
"We are very grateful to PwC and Bell Gully for their creativity and their commitment to our organisation. We appreciate their outstanding staff involvement and love that they have so much fun taking part."
About the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation
Every day six New Zealand children and adults are diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma or a related blood condition; the equivalent of around 2,200 New Zealanders a year.
The LBF is committed to improving the quality of life for patients and their families living with these blood cancers and conditions by providing patient support services, research, information, awareness and advocacy.
The LBF receives no government funding and relies on public donations, sponsorships and grants, as well as funds raised through events and fundraisers such as Shave for a Cure.
The funds raised by Shave for a Cure are put to invaluable use by the LBF in its work with the many New Zealand families affected by blood cancers and conditions.

Where will the funds go?
All funds raised by PwC and Bell Gully will go toward funding the key components of the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation's work – patient support services, research, information, awareness and advocacy.
