Bell Gully is the only New Zealand law firm to be named in the top 100 global competition law practices by independent legal researchers.
Global Competition Review has released the findings of its annual worldwide practice review, producing the GCR 100 list.
The GCR 100 is a guide to the top 100 competition practices as selected by researchers and based on criteria such as degree of competition specialisation, policy involvement and recent successes. It is a leading qualitative survey of the international competition marketplace and is designed to assist companies and law firms seeking expertise in other countries to identify recommended specialists.
Bell Gully partner Phil Taylor, who leads the firm's competition law practice, says the competition law team is honoured to have achieved the GCR listing for the third year running.
"This recognition is very much a reflection of our clients. Their faith in choosing us as their advisors means we have the privilege of working on some of the most challenging and interesting competition law matters."
Among clients whom Bell Gully advises are Air New Zealand, TelstraClear, Rank Group and Carter Holt Harvey. The firm is also engaged frequently to advise on the New Zealand aspects of multinational transactions. For example, Bell Gully advised Reuters on the New Zealand competition implications of its acquisition of Moneyline Telerate, a global provider of real time financial information, and Sony Corporation on the New Zealand competition implications of the merger of its recorded music interests with those of BMG.
Bell Gully is also involved in competition legislation advice. Phil Taylor is a member of the Government-appointed New Zealand-Australian Competition Law Harmonisation Working Group.
