A total of $9,500 in prizes is available to the winners of this year's Corporate Lawyers' Association of New Zealand (CLANZ)-Bell Gully Scholarship and Prize, open to in-house lawyers and senior law students respectively.
?As in-house specialists, we recognise that good development opportunities for lawyers can be difficult to arrange in many companies,? said CLANZ President Nicolas Short. ?This Scholarship gives New Zealand in-house lawyers an opportunity to attend the very best development programmes worldwide.?
"In addition, the Prize asks senior law students to consider their response from the perspective of the clients and encourages them to consider a career as an in-house lawyer."
"This is the third year that Bell Gully has sponsored the Scholarship and Prize, and we consider it an important part of our wider support for CLANZ and the in-house profession," said David Flacks, Bell Gully Partner.
The Scholarship winner will receive a $5,000 scholarship package, designed to advance their professional career through attendance at local or international development events.
The Scholarship is open to all CLANZ members (in-house counsel employed by New Zealand companies, government departments and other organisations, not in private practice), and will be awarded for the best paper on the topic "The role of in-house counsel as ?ethics guardian? in their organisation: security guard or champion?". Two $500 cash prizes are available for runners-up.
