Roger is a litigation partner, and was appointed the firm's chairman in 2007, after three years heading the firm's litigation department. He is recognised for handling large-scale litigation and in developing strategies for successfully resolving complex disputes.
Roger specialises in company law and securities litigation, competition law matters and commercial contractual disputes. He is also experienced in banking and finance litigation. He regularly appears as counsel in major commercial matters in the High Court and the Court of Appeal.
Roger's experience includes acting for corporate and merchant banking clients in litigation arising from corporate takeovers, mergers and acquisitions, equity issues and sales and purchases. He is an expert in Companies Act and Securities Act disputes and issues arising under the NZX Listing Rules and Takeovers Code and has appeared in numerous Takeovers Panel, NZX and Securities Commission inquiries.
Roger has acted for domestic and multinational clients in numerous Commerce Commission investigations and regularly appears before the Commission and in the High Court on competition law disputes.
Roger is the Director of the Legal Research Foundation, New Zealand’s leading private law reform body and is a member of the editorial board of the New Zealand Law Review.
Chambers Global 2008 and 2009 feature Roger as a leading individual in litigation, noting he is "highly recommended for his expert handling of big-ticket disputes". PLC Which Lawyer? 2009 lists him as a recommended lawyer in its dispute resolution rankings and recommends him for his competition expertise. He is also identified as an expert in the Legal Media Group's Litigation Lawyer Expert Guide and in Asialaw Leading Lawyers 2009.
