Haydn specialises in corporate and securities law with a focus on divestments and acquisitions, investment products, company and commercial law and energy projects.

In addition to advising on a full range of corporate matters, he also has expertise in outsourcing and establishing and operating investment product offerings.

Haydn’s work focuses on M&A transactions, company and commercial law, stock exchange compliance, securities law, takeovers, and energy-related projects.

Haydn joined Bell Gully in 1992 and is a partner in the corporate/commercial department.  He worked first in the Wellington office before leaving for two years with Allen & Overy in London.  He re-joined Bell Gully in late 1998, based in the Auckland office.

Who's Who Legal 2011 and PLC Which Lawyer? 2011 recognise Haydn as a leading M&A lawyer. Chambers Global 2010 also identifies Haydn as a leading corporate lawyer, noting his "broad expertise in general corporate work and investments", with clients describing Haydn as "innovative and commercially minded" in an earlier edition.

Advised a global investment bank on its successful acquisition of the rural, commercial and consumer loan portfolios of failed finance company South Canterbury Finance Group, with an aggregate book value of around NZ$123 million.

Asahi Group
Advised Asahi on the New Zealand law aspects of the NZ$1.5 billion acquisition of Independent Liquor, Asahi's largest ever acquisition.

Carter Holt Harvey’s sale of its forestry business to Hancock Natural Resources Group
Advised Rank Group's subsidiary, Carter Holt Harvey, a New Zealand-based forest products company and also New Zealand's largest forest owner, on the sale of its forestry business comprising substantially all of its forestry interests including approximately 260,000 hectares of freehold and non-freehold forestry estate, to US-based forestry manager Hancock Natural Resource Group Inc. for in excess of NZ$1.5 billion. This was one of the biggest and most complex property sales in New Zealand’s history.

Hauraki Private Equity No. 2 Fund Limited
Advised Goldman Sachs JB Were-managed fund, the Hauraki Private Equity No. 2 Fund Limited of New Zealand, on its purchase of 56% of New Zealand construction firm Dominion Constructors, and on the merger of Dominion with construction firm Acrow (also owned by the Hauraki Private Equity No 2 Fund).
