Damian (Ngati Kahungunu) is a corporate lawyer who advises on commercial transactions and contracts and is a recognised expert on Treaty of Waitangi matters.

Damian advises a number of clients on a range of commercial matters and has extensive experience in the establishment of joint ventures and the negotiation of commercial contracts. He has managed a number of merger and acquisition projects, including undertaking and reporting on due diligence and negotiating sale and purchase agreements.

Damian also has extensive experience in, and is a recognised expert on, Treaty of Waitangi settlements. In particular, he has extensive experience in advising on mandate for negotiations, development of negotiation briefs, agreements in principle and deeds of settlement, and settlement legislation and post settlement matters.

He has appeared as senior counsel before the Waitangi Tribunal and the Maori Land Court and is a regular presenter at seminars and conferences on the Treaty.

Damian regularly advises clients on fisheries law and forestry related matters. He also advises a number of charities on registration with the Charities Commission and associated issues.

Before joining the firm in 2000, he was General Counsel for the Treaty of Waitangi Fisheries Commission.
